AN OPENING DOOR
Inspiration is the core of all great works; the creativity that spurs the artistic process is universally coveted by unique minds. I share this sentiment and of my valued virtues, self expression is certainly one. Long have I awaited an education that nourishes, not hinders, my natural curiosities. I am capable of paving a new path to the future if I were only provided the necessary tools, and I am not interested in repeating the mistakes of the previous generations. Since I was young I have been penalized for refusing to box my non-conforming identity up for public consumption. I do not desire the pleasure of others, I only wish to speak my truth and have it be received appropriately. Above all I covet the creative freedom that artistic stability provides, and education is a crucial step in reaching that goal.
I have yet to allow a single challenge to overcome me. In previous years I have been praised by students and professors alike for my abilities but the yearning to grow has never left me. I am constantly striving to better myself and improve upon the foundations I have been building since I was a child just learning how to draw. In previous years I was awarded ‘Excellence in painting’ and have since made it my mission to surpass my best work constantly. My work has been featured in my college’s display cases for every class taken so far, and I have worked toward being featured in galleries outside of my college and school hours. I do not settle for subpar work, and generally hold myself to a high set of standards.
I feel pursuing higher education at FIT is just what I need to hone my skills and successfully enter the career I want to spend the rest of my life doing. The subject matter and connections offered to students by FIT is an opportunity I would be wise to take on. FIT has a reputation for providing many thorough and comprehensive courses; I feel as though these courses would give me the tools necessary to unlock this hidden potential and allow me to bridge the gap between my current pieces and the pieces I see in my head. Additionally I have the added benefit of a consistent source of inspiration given the feats accomplished by alumni and their exciting experiences following their education at FIT.
Generally speaking it would be foolish this squander this chance. I recognize this time in my life to be one of growth and enrichment and so I seek the path best suited to help me achieve my dream; it would make a world of difference to me providing I attend this college. I can promise my short years spent there will be remembered not only by myself, but by the staff and students who accompanied me on this journey.
